Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, just 21 miles north of London, is a fine Jacobean House and Garden in a spectacular countryside setting.
Built by Robert Cecil, Ist Earl of Salisbury and Chief Minister to King James I from 1607 to 1611. There is a marvellous collection of pictures, furnishings and historic armour on display The Estate has been in the Cecil family for 400 years, one of England’s foremost political families. Where Elizabethan history began The Royal Palace of Hatfield (c 1485) in the West Garden is where Elizabeth I spent most of her childhood. In the Park, an oak tree marks the place where the young Princess Elizabeth first heard of her accession to the throne. The Garden at Hatfield House dates from the early 17th century when Robert Cecil employed John Tradescant the Elder to collect plants for his new home. 간다고...런던에서 아주 가까운 성이고, 많은
수집품과 실내장식을 볼수 있다는 이야기에, 치열한
경쟁을 뚫고, 도우미 엄마로 참여를...
그런데
그런데, 결정적으로 내가 보고 싶었던 귀족들의
수집품과 인테리어는 볼수 없었다.
그 이유는 유람이 아니라, 견학이고 학습의 연장선
이라서 아이들을에게 안내원이 보여준 곳은 정원과
그 시대를 재연한 모습들...
언제나 저 성에 들어가보나 기대를 했건만, 왕들의
식사와 사냥에 대한 이야기만 잔득 듣고 왔다는..
참고로...이 성에서 결혼식이나 행사를 할수 있고
많은 사람들이 이곳에서 피로연을 한다고...
자연과 어우려진 모습이 참으로 보기 좋았음... |
